The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has for the first time locked a wallet of digital assets related to the financing of Russian military forces.
According to the SSU, the agency seized and blocked a cryptocurrency wallet believed to be linked to funding Russian military operations in Ukraine.
“This man [the owner of the cryptocurrency wallet] calls himself a volunteer and since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine has collected funding from the invading army.When seized, the wallet had $19,500 worth of cryptocurrency.
“Volunteers” sent a significant amount of assets to purchase military equipment for the fighters of the L / DNR terrorist organization. He also uses social media platforms to encourage funding for illegal armed groups with image and video content. They are reported to share this content with other participants in their network and update their followers on how the money is being used.
The security services shared that it discovered and seized the wallet as well as arrested the owner of the wallet with support from foreign cryptocurrency companies.
The $19,500 cryptocurrency is currently awaiting a decision on the transfer to Ukrainian jurisdiction.
The SSU has warned all those whose activities are involved in funding the war in Ukraine. Since Putin invaded Ukraine, cryptocurrencies have played an important role in the fight from both sides of the conflict. The Ukrainian government has been able to benefit from cryptocurrency initiatives launched to support the country’s military efforts.
