The co-founder of the Dogecoin (DOGE) rejects an offer to promote a multi-million dollar unofficial cryptocurrency project.
Billy Markus, the co-founder of Dogecoin, turned down an offer worth $10 billion, worth about $14 million at the time of writing to promote Dogechain, a blockchain project aimed at bridging the gap between Dogecoin and Web3.
Responding to a Twitter user, Markus said that no one really cares if they turn down the offer. The rejection will not betray the DOGE community. The community won’t have to wonder if Billy Markus made money from creating DOGE or running pump-and-dump schemes.
A member of the DOGE community spoke up:
“Billy Markus rejecting this large sum of money to avoid betraying the community is something that deserves our deepest respect. “
Jens Wiechers, a member of the Dogecoin foundation, pointed out that Dogechain is an unofficial project and is not affiliated with the meme coin or its founders.
“The claim in paid media that Dogecoin launched the “Dogechain” test network is FALSE. Neither Dogecoin nor the developer nor others associated with the Dogecoin Foundation are associated with this token (Dogechain) in any way.”
Dogechain launched earlier this month, developers of this project based on Ethereum (ETH) build decentralized finance (DeFi), NFTs, and non-DOGE cryptocurrency-related products.
