The parent company of social networking giant Facebook Meta will open a retail store in San Francisco to provide devices for the virtual reality space.
In an announcement on Monday, Meta said it would open a retail store in Burlingame, California on May 9. The store aims to provide a trial experience for the company's device products, including virtual reality headsets, interactive video screens and smart glasses. The store, located on the campus of Meta , their headquarters in Menlo Park, will have LED screens surrounding the wall, showing what users will see when using Meta's VR headsets.
"The Meta store will help people understand that our product could be the gateway to metaverse in the future," said Martin Gilliard, the store manager. "We don't sell Metaverse in-stores, but hopefully when people come out, they'll have a better understanding of how our products help them connect to Metaverse."
Facebook's retail store changed its brand to Meta in October 2021, saying it's not just focused on the social network. They then offer a vision of metaverse in connecting social experiences online and in the real world. Tech giants, including Apple, have had stores around the world for a long time. However, Facebook's 2.9 billion users have not had the opportunity to participate in the retail store since the company was founded in 2004.
However, in the Metaverse space, many companies are building virtual assets, with electronics giant Samsung launching the Metaverse store in the Decentraland world developed on the Blockchain in January 2022. Reports also suggest that major retailers such as Walmart may also be preparing to join metaverse.
