What are ETHW and ETHS?
The Merge is an event that merges two blockchains Ethereum 1.0 and Ethereum 2.0. At that time, Ethereum will officially move from PoW (Proof-of-Work) consensus mechanism to PoS (Proof-of-Stake) mechanism, ending the mining of ETH by miners in favor of Staking ETH as a validator of the Ethereum network. In particular, the new token is classified as follows:
- ETHS is the token that represents the Ethereum using Proof-of-Stake;
- ETHW is the token that represents the Ethereum using Proof-of-work that will potentially continue to exist once the hard fork occurs.
The Hardfork ETH proposal received support from some in the Ethereum community but faced stiff opposition from Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin.
In preparation for The Merge event, the MEXC exchange allowed users to convert ETHS into ETHS and ETHW. If the upgrade is successful, two parallel blockchains will be established and all ETH holders on MEXC will receive assets divided at a 1:1 ratio.

- Market pairs: ETHS/USDT, ETHW/USDT (There may be more pairs to trade in the future)
- ETHS and ETHW Trading: 2022-08-08 04:00 (UTC)
- Deposits and withdrawals: ETHS & ETHW deposits and withdrawals will not be activated.
How to exchange assets between ETH, ETHS, ETHW on MEXC
Step 1: Log in to MEXC – Click “Wallet” on the navigation bar, then select “Overview”.
Step 2:
- Swap ETH to ETHS and ETHW: Find “ETH” in your Spot Account – Click on “Exchange”
- Swap ETHS and ETHW to ETH: Find “ETHS” or “ETHW” in your Spot account, tap “Exchange”
Step 3: Enter the amount you want to exchange – Click “Redeem now”
- From ETH to ETHS, ETHW (1 ETH = 1 ETHS + 1 ETHW)
- From ETHS, ETHW to ETH (1 ETHS + 1 ETHW = 1 ETH)
