Technology giant, Apple has just launched its new product – iPhone 14. The event attracted widespread public attention.
However, this is also an opportunity for bad actors to take action. A few hours ago, Apple had an important event related to the new iPhone, Airpods and Apple Watch. And they’re not giving up this opportunity.
The bad guys played a video related to Apple on Youtube. It’s a video of the Apple CEO’s old interview with a company promoting a scam cryptocurrency website.
According to the Verge, the video shows many signs of being faked. Apple CEO Tim Cook stated that the video had tens of thousands of viewers at the time of its release.
However, the bad guys added BTC and ETH logos on the stream and redirected viewers to a suspicious URL that had nothing to do with Apple. The Verge reported that YouTube removed the video later.
These types of cryptocurrency scams have been going on for a long time. Perpetrators often use a brand or celebrity to trick victims into depositing cryptocurrency into their wallets and promise to double that amount.
While this may sound like a blatant scam (because it is), there have been plenty of instances where depositors have reported that they’ve actually made a profit.
