On Thursday (August 18), David Marcus, former Messenger Director and Head of Facebook’s Cryptocurrency Division (Head of Digital Wallet Novi), is a big fan of Bitcoin but with his latest praise of the coin, he seems to have offended some Ethereum supporters.
On May 12, Marcus announced on Twitter that he has founded a new company called Lightspark to explore, build, and expand bitcoin’s capabilities and utility and that they will start by focusing on the Lightning Network.
I wanted to share that we are starting a new company called @lightspark to explore, build and extend the capabilities and utility of #Bitcoin. As a first step, we’re actively assembling a team to dive deeper into the Lightning Network. (1/3)

He went on to add:
“A recession is a good time to focus on building and creating value with people who fit the mission. We’re excited to learn about Lightning, learn more, and work together with the community. We will share more about our work as we make progress! “
On July 18, Marcus called Bitcoin the most secure and reliable form of decentralized value storage and payment.
I never understood the schadenfreude between the #Ethereum and #Bitcoin communities. These two will end up being complementary. One as a protocol for the decentralized web, the other for the most secure and trusted form of decentralized store-of-value and settlement.

Yesterday, with only four weeks left until Ethereum’s The Merge protocol upgrade, Marcus praised Bitcoin once again. But some Ethereum supporters seem to have felt uneasy.
Basically, Marcus has told his 103K+ Twitter followers that Ethereum’s upcoming Consolidation event makes him excited that Lightspark is building on Bitcoin (which he implies is a more stable and predictable platform). One of the critics of Marcus’ tweet was Mike Dudas, Founder and General Partner at 6th Man Ventures.
Then why even mention ETH and the merge at all?
"I can’t help but feel great about building on #Bitcoin. The lack of uncertainty and the predictability of the network over a very long time generates trust and stability" would have worked and not come off as "ETH bashing"!
