MBC (Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation), one of South Korea’s four national television and radio networks, has signed a business partnership with Hong Kong-based metaverse gaming platform, The Sandbox.
MBC will set up its iconic Sangam office building and production studios in virtual space along with content for The Sandbox users. MBC has partnered with game platform The Sandbox has partnered with a range of South Korea-based companies, including local entertainment giant CJ ENM and major K-pop companies such as SM and Cube Entertainment.
Last year, MBC set up a metaverse avatar for the non-celebrity judges of The Masked Talent, a spin-off of the popular variety show The Masked Singer.
South Korea’s cable network is also currently airing Avatar Singer, which has been described as the first metaverse music show. Avatar Singer uses avatars A) to hide the identities of the contestants.
