On the last episode of “Bitcoin, Explained,” hosts Aaron van Wirdum and Sjors Provoost discussed the bitcoin core development process and more specifically the different roles involved in the process.
At the beginning of the program, van Wirdum and Provoost explained what Bitcoin Core is. They then went on to explain the role of three different types of Bitcoin Core contributors:
- “Regular” Bitcoin Core contributors
- Bitcoin Core maintainer
- management maintains Bitcoin Core.
Since there are no barriers to entry, anyone can become a bitcoin core contributor, van Wirdum and Provoost point out: anyone can start contributing to the Bitcoin Core project by providing code, evaluating code, or possibly other types of contributions such as text translations. Therefore, the people who maintain Bitcoin Core are Bitcoin Core contributors, they are the ones who can merge the new code into the Bitcoin Core codebase.
Participants in the program explained exactly what this means and how someone can become a Bitcoin maintainer. Finally, Wirdum and Provoost looked at some of the typical tasks of a Bitcoin Core manager, including managing the release process, adding and removing Bitcoin Core maintainers for the project, and updating the bitcoincore.org website.
The program also discusses which of the above tasks were performed by the manager who maintains Bitcoin Core and which ones were conducted.
