According to core network developers including Tim Beiko of the Ethereum Foundation, the Difficulty bomb was postponed when gray glacier hard fork was successfully deployed on Ethereum on Thursday (June 30).

Testnet Sepolia setup is set to run through merge testing over the next few days and is the last second test before going through the official The Merge.
According to Etherscan, the Grey Glacier hard fork was started on block 15050000 at about 5:54 p.m. The hard fork will now delay the bomb by about 700,000 blocks or 100 days, allowing developers until mid-October to complete the long-awaited The Merge.
Ethereum Foundation community manager Tim Beiko quickly tweeted later that day:
" 20 blocks have passed the fork and seem to be fine: all monitored Nodes except Open Ethereum do not support forks, the rest are synchronized. So far there are no blocks on the old chain! ”
The success of hard fork
Ethereum ecosystem developer Nethermind on Twitter also confirmed the success of the hard fork, adding that the difficult bomb had been successfully delayed.
"Hard fork Grey Glacier was a success. Nethermind nodes are still working well. Block time will be down to 13 seconds. The bomb has been delayed."
Difficult bomb is a mechanism put in place to gradually remove Ether (ETH) miners from Proof-of-work (PoW) mining operations on Ethereum before the network eventually merges with the Proof-of-Stake(PoS)-based Beacon chain.
This is done by increasing the difficulty level of puzzles in the PoW mining algorithm, thus resulting in longer block time and fewer ETH mining rewards. This mechanism will also make The Merge significantly more complicated for developers when completed due to the slowing block creation process.
Reversing the difficult bomb is imperative as it will slow the process of creating new blocks to the point where it is almost impossible to come up with new network upgrades.
The bombshell has been pushed back several times due to The Merge experiencing numerous delays in recent years. The previous Arrow Glacier delay occurred in December 2021 and pushed the bomb back until mid-2022.
