On Friday( April 15), Opera released a beta version of its Web3 browser with a built-in cryptocurrency wallet for iOS, iPhone and iPad devices. Opera's crypto Browser has been available to Mac and Window users, as well as Android phone users since January 2022. The mobile launch is the latest step in their Crypto Browser Project, a Web3-focused initiative to support navigation across decentralized applications (DApps), game platforms, and metaverse.
According to the company, key features include the Opera Wallet that supports the Ethereum, Polygon, and Celo ecosystems for buying, selling, and trading tokens. Users can restore any Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) Compatible Wallet with the original Opera Wallet and integrate their available assets or balances.
On the homepage of this browser, users can see the latest top NFT revenue and a news aggregator called "Crypto Corner". The tool updates directly on the price of crypto assets and gas fees, as well as airdrops and even suggested educational sources.
The company also said that the browser is integrated with a feature that protects cryptocurrency mining from preventing "malicious cryptocurrency mining" behaviors that could harm iPhone or iPad devices. Other security features include ad blocking and tracking, pop-up blocking, and cookie blocking.
According to Jorgen Arnesen, Vice President of Mobile at Opera, crypto browsers are geared toward growing interest in Web3 in both those who have been using cryptocurrencies for a long time or new users.
"The Opera Crypto Browser project was built to simplify the Web3 experience that is often bewildering to mass users. Opera believes that Web3 needs to be easy to use in order to reach its full potential and widespread usage."
Furthermore, the company has added support with eight major Blockchain ecosystems – Bitcoin, Solana, polygon, StarkEx, Ronin, Celo, Nervos Network, and IXO. Opera says it plans to integrate more Proof-Of-Stake (PoS) chains in the future.
Opera recently partnered with Yat, a platform that allows the creation of Web addresses or URLs based on emoji. Opera's emoji combination allows users to surf the web on their platform by entering verified Yats, or a string of emojis into the URL bar instead of letters or words.
